An Amazing Fact: Did you know that between 1962 and 2000, the number of obese in America rose from 13 percent to a staggering 31 percent? And worse, childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past two decades. According to the Surgeon General, obesity is now responsible for more than 300,000 deaths every year!
With so many lives destroyed by preventable diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory illness, it is no wonder we think we have a “health-care crisis” in America. But I believe that no government program or insurance company can fix it.
Why? Because it’s not a “health-care crisis!” It’s a spiritual crisis! And it is largely brought on by self-destructive lifestyles that ignore God’s healing power and principles.
Self Destruction
God promises better health and strength to those who do His will. But for too long, Americans have been “wise in our own eyes,” ignoring our Creator’s basic counsel on physical, emotional, and spiritual health! We gorge on greasy junk food, feast on artery-clogging products, and wash it all down with sweet sodas — then sit for hours only exercising our fingers with a computer mouse or remote control.
No wonder people are sick.
The results have been disastrous. The epidemic of health problems that plague our country today — heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes — bring untold suffering and early death to millions. These are people who God wants to save and bless with abundant life here … and eternal life in heaven. If only they could hear what their Creator has to say about their health and well being!
