In March, graduates from our Center of Evangelism and Amazing Facts' staff arrived in the capital of Ghana to conduct 27 evangelistic meetings. We praise God for the 2,000 newly baptized members, but this is only the humble first fruit of a more far-reaching work to be done!

Out of the Blue!

Out of the Blueby Doug Batchelor

An Amazing Fact: Wind shear is a sudden change in the speed or the direction of the wind over a very short distance that can create a hazard to flying aircraft. The strong downward winds associated with wind shear abruptly push down on an aircraft, reducing both it's speed and the lift generated by the wings. A pilot encountering wind shear must make quick adjustments to compensate for the loss of lift.

Many airports have installed wind-shear alert systems to warn air traffic controllers of dangerous conditions. But now, experimental aircraft equipped with laser, microwave, and infrared systems are being developed that can "look" ahead of an aircraft into the atmosphere and see dangerous air turbulence changes.

In the Bible prophecies, God has also equipped His church with an advance turbulence warning system.

More Than 10,000 Baptized in the Philippines
Wednesday, August 01, 2001 (518 reads)

A multi-faceted evangelistic effort throughout the Philippine Islands netted glorious results, with 10,774 individuals baptized in just two months. The first phase of the program began with thousands of Filipino Christians studying Amazing Facts Bible lessons with their friends and neighbors.

The reaping phase began on Sabbath, April 21, in a maximum-security prison in Muntinlupa City, which is about an hour from Manila. Several thousand inmates and their families were allowed to attend a Sabbathkeeping church located on the prison property in order to hear Pastor Doug Batchelor tell his life story.

The inmates were shocked to hear this man of God confess that he had once been a drug user, a thief, and a prisoner like themselves.

Loving Discipline

Loving DisciplineBy Pastor Robb Long

An Amazing Fact: If a lamb is in the habit of wandering far away from the fold, where it could nibble on poisonous weeds or encounter wild dogs, a shepherd might be forced to take drastic measures to save his wayward sheep. In many countries the wise shepherd would, with his own hands, break one of the bones in the lamb's hind leg and then tenderly bind and splint that same leg. As the rebellious lamb heals, he becomes very dependent on and attached to the shepherd. In this way, the lamb is cured of his dangerous wanderlust.

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, also keeps a watchful eye over His flock. In order to save a wayward church member from destruction, He asks His church to play a role in getting that person's attention and wooing him back into the fold.

At Jesus Feet

An Amazing Fact: Monkey trappers in North Africa have a clever method of catching their prey. They fill a number of gourds with nuts and chain them firmly to a tree. Each has a hole just large enough to allow an unsuspecting monkey to stick his hand inside the hollowed-out gourd. When the hungry animal discovers this hole and the treasure waiting inside, he quickly grabs a handful of nuts. However, the hole is too small for him to withdraw his bulging, clenched fist. And he doesn't have enough sense to open up his hand and release the deceptive booty in order to escape, so he is easily taken captive.

The tendency to cling tenaciously to tempting treasure plagues unsuspecting humans and monkeys alike...
