An Amazing Fact: All light is composed of three primary rays, or wavelengths, that when joined together produce light. The first ray originates, the second illuminates, and the third consummates. The first ray, often called invisible light, is neither seen nor felt. The second is both seen and felt. The third is not seen but is felt as heat. Like light, our “One God” is revealed in the three distinct persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Three Screens of Light and Life
One night a few weeks ago, alone in a remote mountain cabin, I was talking to Karen on the phone. I heard a little “thud.” A large moth had collided with the window trying to reach the light inside. I then pushed the bulb of the desk lamp right up against the dark window to tempt other insects. Before long, there was an absolute riot of night bugs dancing on the glass and swirling around the window, all attracted by the light. I knew they were out there in the dark, but I found them with the light.
In Matthew 5:14, Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.”
These words of Christ are a declaration of purpose, a call to live a life that illuminates others for God … and they are a commission for your future! The world is a desperately dark place, and it’s getting darker as we near the end. But out there are sincere people everywhere yearning to find hope and purpose—to see the light, and God wants them to see it through you.
“For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you” (Isaiah 60:2).
Of course, you can’t personally go everywhere to share the light of Jesus, and that’s where Amazing Facts comes in. When you support Amazing Facts with your prayers and financial gifts, or use our materials to witness, you are pouring golden oil in lamps that illuminate multitudes in darkness around the globe.
You become a “light of the world.”
Three Screens
Today, sharing that light of Christ is happening through three primary screens—those found on TVs, computers, and mobile phones. Throughout the world, billions of people access one of these three screens for information. Most people in America have all three! With your help, Amazing Facts is expanding our outreach through all three of these electronic displays in some incredible ways.
Television Screens
Television is screen number one for most people. It is estimated that 96.7 percent of American households now own at least one television set. I am so glad that Amazing Facts can be seen on most of those screens! It is through television that we are able to reach the broadest audience … people like Philip and Dana, for instance. Dana wrote:
“Thank you for your ministry. My husband is an ordained minister but is not assigned to a congregation at this time. …. We have not found a church that we want to be a part of in this interim. So watching your program has become our worship time on Sunday morning. Thank you for always pushing your listeners to dig deeper into the Word of God. We have felt challenged on many of our long-held beliefs/traditions. We wanted to send you this donation to assist you in proclaiming the glory of our amazing God.”
Yet one challenge we have with TV is that there are hundreds of channels. With such a kaleidoscope of viewing options, we need more exposure to shine the light of truth on more people.
Your gift this month will help us do that.
Computer Screens
Another popular source of information is the computer screen. The power of the Internet to reach around the world instantaneously is unmatched in human history.
We’ve adapted all of our Bible studies for online use, enabled people to watch our programs 24/7/365 online, and developed dozens of websites that explain the Bible to non-believers and believers alike.
Ben from Washington, only 32 years old, sent us this note before he recently passed away—reminding us how important it is to keep Amazing Facts programs on the computer screen touching lives day by day:
“With my current health problems, my wife and I aren’t able to attend church every week. … Yesterday was one of those days … so when I went to the website to look at the sermons that are available, I saw the link to join the live church service and clicked on it. That gave us the opportunity to join both the Sabbath school program and the church service. Being part of the whole service rather than just listening to the sermon made it so nice. It’s nearly like going to church, and that makes Sabbath such a blessing even when we aren’t able to go to our local church.”
The testimonies we receive from people looking at computer screens are astounding, especially when you consider the global effect of our websites translated into other languages like Spanish and Chinese! Watching Amazing Facts programs on our 24/7 Internet channel is also reaching tens of thousands of people who we would otherwise never reach.
Phone Screens
Perhaps the world’s fastest-growing communication source is the phone screen. The modern “smartphone” is a marvel indeed, and it has done way more than just replace landlines. Today’s mobile phones can send and receive email, shop for products, and even tune in to live video and radio streamed over the Internet. That’s why with your help, Amazing Facts is developing new “applications” to communicate the truth of God’s light to this handheld outreach avenue. Jason writes,
“I’ve had the AF Mobile app for my iPhone since it first came out, and I love the ease of being able to access so much of the video and audio content that you produce anywhere, anytime, right at my fingertips. It’s amazing that wherever I am I can open up one of your Study Guides and give a Bible study on almost any subject. Thank you for making this app available, and thank you for making it FREE!”
We want to reach people wherever they might be, whenever they are ready to receive the Word of God! These are the three electronic screens on which people of the world are going to watch TV, listen to audio, and surf the web.
To keep these screens beaming the light of truth requires a substantial investment in programming and production. Your support enables our team to stay on the cutting edge so that the Word of God can be seen and heard on virtually every media outlet.
One More Screen ... You!
But there is a fourth screen as well—the screen of your life. We must be sure that we are living the life of Christ people can look at. “You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:5 NKJV).
That’s why one of the most important functions of Amazing Facts is to help you be a better reflection of Jesus in your daily life. We have many witnessing tools, Bible studies, and books that will encourage you to grow into the image of Christ. So when you give to support this great work, you are ministering to your own soul as well.
So I’m asking you today to send a special gift to ensure Amazing Facts reaches the three screens of modern life with the message of the everlasting gospel. Your gift will help us continue to develop and produce outreaches and presentations tailored specifically for television, the Internet, and smart phones.
Yours to share the Light with the world,
Pastor Doug Batchelor
