Your Irreplaceable Body

Daily Devotional Audio

Nutrition is a critical component in the care of horses. Like humans, horses only have one stomach and use microbial fermentation to break down the grass and hay they consume. A horse’s digestive system is delicate and can easily be upset by rapid changes in feed. Horses need clean, high-quality feed that is given at regular intervals. They are sensitive to molds and toxins and should not be fed lawn clippings.

Sadly, some people spend far more time and money on the nutritional needs of a horse or a championship dog than on their own bodies. Though God has created us with irreplaceable physical bodies, people will invest thousands in properly caring for pets while neglecting their own health. High-quality food is purchased for their beloved animals while owners eat junk food and drink sodas that ruin the body.

God gave Adam and Eve the ideal diet in the very beginning: “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food” (Genesis 1:29). After the fall, “the herb [plants] of the field” (Genesis 3:18) were added. This heaven-ordained diet made up of grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables offers the best nutritional ingredients to maintain excellent health.

While the Bible does not condemn the eating of certain meats, the original diet was a balanced vegetarian plan. Science has not only confirmed the benefits of a plant-based diet, but it reveals the increase in disease among those who eat animal products. There is also an increase in atherosclerosis, cancer, kidney disorders, osteoporosis, and trichinosis among meat eaters.

There are also indications that a vegetarian diet will be the standard in the new earth: “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox” (Isaiah 65:25).
