Microscopic Harmony

Health officials once believed that measles had been completely wiped out by the year 2000. However, the disease resurfaced, and by 2017 there were 118 cases. This is unsettling because measles can have complications that kill some children or cause permanent damage, such as deafness.

The evils that are seen in this world are often blamed on God. This leads many people to reject God, misunderstanding His true character. In order to correct the distorted picture of His nature, God has been doing everything He can to show His love.

Jesus predicted that His death on the cross would draw people to Him: “I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself” (John 12:32). If the glimpse of God’s love was enough to draw all people to Jesus, how much more will we be drawn after evil is completely vanquished? Although we received a flood of insight into God’s character when Jesus died on the cross, we will be able to understand it so much better without the distortions of evil in the natural world.

This is partly because nature will be recreated according to its original design. Diseases, disasters, and the attack of predators will be eliminated: “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain” (Isaiah 65:25). Although the Bible does not specify the details of what nature will be like, we know that it will reflect a loving God.

Do you look forward to the new earth, a land that will lack even microscopic predators like measles?
