Priceless Research
Read Time: 2 min

One of the most expensive research projects in the world has a price tag that continues to rise. So far, the International Nuclear Fusion Project has cost $20 billion, which has come from 35 countries. In order to achieve their goal, scientists need to heat material to a temperature that is ten times hotter than the sun. The research is risky and uncertain, but the hope is that it will lead to the production of an unlimited energy source.
The cost of Christ’s incarnation is much higher than all of the research projects of the world combined. However, the guaranteed result is an unlimited energy source called eternal life. By coming into the world, Christ would become our acting representative before the Father in heaven. Like any good representative would do, He became an expert in our experience. His “research” went beyond that of any advocate in history, because He took on the very nature of those whom He would represent.
The Bible says that there was no other way that He could redeem us from our sins: “In all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17).
We can know by His experience that Christ really understood what it meant to be tired: “Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well” (John 4:6). We can know He experienced what it meant to feel a sorrow so deep that He longed for companionship: “He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me’ ” (Matthew 26:38). With all of these experiences in mind, we can trust that He is before the Father presenting our case with the deepest sympathy.
