Gene Brought Back to Life, Part 2

Six months after almost dying on the operating table, Gene was back in surgery. While recovering he found it difficult to sleep. Early one Sunday morning, he came across Amazing Facts. Fifteen years had passed since he had last watched Pastor Batchelor preach. “I was so excited! My wife was still sleeping so I didn’t awaken her, but the following Sunday I did wake her up so we could watch it together.” As they listened, they knew God was telling them this was Bible truth.

About a month later, Gene woke up at 4 a.m. and prayed, “Lord, what do you want me to do today? Where do you want me to go?” Later he woke up June and told her that God impressed him that they should visit a Sabbath-keeping church about 40 miles from their home. When they arrived, he told his wife he would go in and check it out. She was cautious and skeptical and waited in the car.

Gene was warmly greeted at the door and told the man who shook his hand that he wanted to know about his church. “I asked what they believed about Jesus. He kindly answered my questions. Then he said they were having Sabbath school and invited my wife and me to join them.” So Gene got his wife and they attended the class.

Just a few days after this, he spoke with a friend who told Gene about the children’s program at his church. Gene had never asked him which church he attends, but on this day he did. He was surprised to discover it was a Sabbath-keeping church. “I knew God was confirming my prompting to attend church that previous Sabbath.”

A couple of days after this took place, one of Gene’s employees came by the office with her husband. They started talking about spiritual things and she said, “Why don’t you and your wife come and visit our church.” Once more, he discovered it was also a Sabbath-keeping church! Twice, God affirmed Gene’s choice to visit that church.

Gene and his wife soon began taking Bible studies and were eventually baptized. They still enjoy watching Amazing Facts online. Gene believes God saved his life on an operating table so that someday he could discover the way to eternal life.

Reflect: Have you ever asked God to give you a confirmation to a choice you needed to make? The Lord is gracious in hearing our prayers and answering them according to His perfect will.
