Judy A Knock at the Door, Part 1
Read Time: 2 min

When Judy was a girl, she almost attended church. Her mother died of cancer when Judy was only six years old. After this, her father gave her a nickel each Sunday and told her to go to the church around the corner from where they lived. She didn’t want to attend and so snuck out each week and spent the five cents on candy. Since her dad wasn’t really into church, she always wondered, “Was it my mother’s wish that I attend church?”
Hard times came when Judy’s father remarried. With Judy being very independent, conflicts erupted in the blended home. But after high school, her step-mother encouraged her to enroll in an X-ray Technician program where she excelled. After graduating from a Midwestern university, she moved out west where she met her husband. A dream job in Alaska didn’t pan out for him, so he went south looking for work. Judy said, “Wherever you go in California, don’t stop in Sacramento. It’s too hot there!” He returned and told her, “I found a job in Sacramento.” So they moved.
After two children came along, Judy was working at a Sabbath-keeping hospital when she found out about her husband’s motorcycle accident and death. She was devastated. Friends and fellow workers at the hospital were very compassionate and helpful. Even the funeral director she worked with was a Sabbath-keeper. But Judy now had to face life and work as a single mother while raising two girls, and her connection with Sabbath-keepers soon slipped into the past.
Over the years, as her daughters grew, Judy tried several different churches. In the last one, when the pastor went off in a bad direction, she tried to talk with the pastor’s wife who said, “When in Rome, do as the Romans.” Judy couldn’t buy this and quit attending.
Now where would she go?
Reflect: Confusion comes from the enemy. God wants to give you a clear path that lines up with His Word. Remember to acknowledge Him in all your ways so He can direct you.
