What was the light God made at the start of creation?

Scripture: Genesis 1:3, 1 John 1:5, Revelation 21:23
What was the light God made at the start of creation? If God made the sun on the fourth day, where did this light come from? In other parts of the Bible we discover that God is light. The very presence of the Lord brings light, so it is evidently the coming of God to this dark world that brought light.

Caller:  My question is in Genesis chapter 1 – in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and He also created light and darkness.

Pastor Doug:  Right.

Caller:  Now that was the first day.  On the fourth day God created the sun, the greater light, the moon, and the stars.

Pastor Doug:  Yes.

Caller:  If He created the sun on the fourth day, what was the light He created on the first day?

Pastor Doug:  All right.  That’s a good question.  We get that from time to time.  If you look in 1st John 1:5 – you might be thinking this is strange – we’re jumping from Genesis to 1st John.  “This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” KJV

The very presence of God, James, emits tremendous light.  God has a glory.  The Bible says in Revelation when God is in the city, there’s no night there, because He is the light of it, ok?

When the Lord came to this corner of the cosmos and there was this massive, chaotic orb swirling – that’s what I believe – the planet was here.  It was like a lot of asteroids.  It was void.  It was chaotic.  And He then began creating.  He brought His presence and light.  He began spinning the world in its orbit, and He was the light.

Now He didn’t need to make the sun until the fourth day because He was lighting the world during the first four days of creation by His very presence.  See what I’m saying?

Caller:  Ok.

Pastor Doug:  He was the light when He said, ‘let there be light.’  His coming to this place brought the light, ok?  That has been the answer that has been satisfying for me, because it is a good question.  If God didn’t make the sun until the fourth day, then where did the light come from?

Caller:  Right.

Pastor Doug:  It came from Him.
