Facebook—or the Book of Life?

Facebook—or the Book of Life?
Facebook in Australia has been tracking the psychological state of its users, some as young as fourteen years old. According to a leaked presentation, their research has found that “anticipatory emotions are more likely to be expressed early in the week, while reflective emotions increase on the weekend.”

This information could be used by unethical advertisers to target people based on their current emotional state—preying on consumers who are feeling depressed and believe that material things can help them feel better. Obviously, this practice raises concerns about how Facebook uses insights it obtains from users, more than a billion worldwide. While Facebook has expressed regret, the fact remains that this kind of information will continue to be collected by Facebook.

While most users are aware that the technology around us can track many things about who we are and what we’re doing, we often choose to live in ignorance to this reality. But whether we choose to ignore the reality or not, it does not change that it’s happening.

But did you know that God is also able to track all our fears, joys, and actions—and even records them? The Psalmist revealed, “You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book?” (Psalm 56:8). We can trust what He does with the information!

In Daniel, we again get a glimpse of this book of records—a book that holds the names of all those who follow God and who are rescued from the trouble in this world (Daniel 12:1). Despite all the challenges we face in our lives, we can be assured that Jesus is on our side in the judgment, when these books will be opened.

Let’s remember our adversary is not God, but the devil, who is trying to keep us out of heaven.  God’s desire is to spend eternity with us in face to face relationship with Him (1 Corinthians 13:12).
