Are You Ready?

After months of increased tensions, several Arab nations—including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Yemen—have cut diplomatic ties with neighboring Qatar, considered to be one of the richest countries in the world. This otherwise tiny country, located along the Persian Gulf, has come under worldwide scrutiny for alleged terroristic cybercrimes and material support to known terrorist groups.

Qatar’s neighbors have even closed their borders and airspace to Qatar Airways. Moreover, well-known Arab-owned airlines, including Emirates and Egypt Air, have canceled all flights to major Qatar hubs, resulting in thousands of passengers facing huge challenges to reschedule their summer travel plans. Thousands of Qatari citizens are also being required to leave their host countries, and several countries are making travel to Qatar illegal.

The current crises in the Middle East point our attention again to Bible prophecy and the stunning events foretold. As we see nations in conflict and religious strife gaining unprecedented attention, we need to spend time studying God’s Word to understand more clearly how the final events of world history will unfold.

Jesus reminded us that those who understand the prophecies pointing to the time in which we live, especially those of Daniel the prophet, will be prepared to meet the coming crisis with wisdom and confidence (Matthew 24:15). The final chapter of Daniel promises that “they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament” (Daniel 12:1).

In the story of the wise virgins, Jesus told us that our preparations now are essential as we wait for the coming of the Bridegroom (Matthew 25:1–13). Some who had not prepared didn’t have enough oil to get them through. Jesus commands us to “watch” and be diligent with His blessings at all times (Matthew 25:13).

While it is easy to speculate our time in earth history based on current news, remember we do not know the day nor the hour. Let’s always be ready to meet our Savior at any moment!
