Redeeming the Gift of Life

November 28, 2012
Redeeming the Gift of Life

An Amazing Fact: The average American household is sitting on about $300 worth of unused or misplaced gift cards. That’s about $30 billion nationally! Retailers know that as much as 7 percent of all the gift cards they sell—and 40 percent of rebates—will go unredeemed. With $2.5 billion wasted annually through forgotten gift cards and neglected rebates, many are essentially letting real money evaporate!

After a long day of my exceptionally poor behavior, my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Weinbaum, pulled me aside for “a little talk.” I don’t remember everything she said, but I do vividly remember this: “Douglas, I hate waste. You can do something wonderful with your life, and you’re wasting it goofing off in class.” I knew she was right. In fact, what she said really scared me. The idea that I could waste my one and only chance at a successful life arrested my attention.

I never forgot her words. I hate waste—especially when I do it. I once carried around a $25 restaurant gift card in my wallet for so long, the place had actually gone out of business by the time I tried to use it. I was a little despondent when I threw the useless gift card in the garbage can unredeemed.

And what about you? Like me, do you regret throwing out spoiled food because you bought too much or waited too long to give it away? … or if you miss an exit on the highway and have to drive a few extra miles? I lament the wasted gas and time. I expect you feel the same way. No one likes to waste.

Yet these are just small examples of loss. No waste in our lives can compare with the tragedy of someone wasting the greatest gift of all—the gift of eternal life with Jesus.

Sadly, most of the people in our troubled world are wasting their lives right now and they don’t even know it. Will you please join me in redeeming more of these perishing souls?

Nothing Wasted
We know Jesus also didn’t like waste. After He miraculously multiplied the loaves and fishes and fed the 5,000, He told His disciples, “Collect the pieces that are left over so that nothing is wasted” (John 6:12).

If Jesus cares about salvaging fishy dinner scraps, then how do you think He feels about saving the very souls He created?

It’s hard to comprehend the heart-rending sorrow Jesus will feel as He beholds the needlessly wasted lives of His rebellious children. There are likewise no adequate words to describe the overwhelming grief the lost will feel when they discover they waited too long and have squandered the gift of eternal life. “The harvest is past, The summer is ended, And we are not saved!” (Jeremiah 8:20).

This is why Jesus came, suffered, and died—to prevent the most catastrophic loss imaginable—a person’s opportunity to live forever.

The whole mission and purpose of Amazing Facts is designed to redeem lives from the ultimate waste! And we can only do this with your faithful partnership. Let’s do all we can while we still can!

Committed to Redemption
Everything you and I do together through Amazing Facts is designed to save souls from eternal ruin. Around our office, we want to avoid waste in every way possible. We strive to be faithful to have every dollar converted into the currency of heaven. While I’m sure there are places we could be more frugal, we are so encouraged when we see God blessing the efforts of Amazing Facts as we share the gift of life.

You see, it takes a team to do this work—the Holy Spirit, you, and Amazing Facts together make it all possible to reach the lost every month and every year. You are a part of our team that makes more testimonies like these possible.

A Gift to Jesus Is Never Wasted
As you know, this is the peak time of year for people to lavish gifts on family and friends. But let’s face it—many of those gifts will be lost, returned, or simply gather dust on shelves. So as you are thinking of gifts for your family and friends, I ask you to remember the other people … the many countless souls … who are missing out on the gift of God’s precious Son.

We can give them the gift of truth. Amazing Facts is reaching millions every month and giving them the opportunity to hear about and accept Jesus into their lives.

You remember the story when Mary lavishly poured her gift of expensive ointment on Jesus’ head and feet. Judas complained it was wasteful, but Jesus defended Mary’s generosity, saying, “Wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her” (Matthew 26:13 NKJV). A gift given to Jesus, no matter how small or large, is never wasted.

And your gift today couldn’t come at a better time. You see, this has been a financially challenging year for Amazing Facts. Monthly giving has been down, yet we have seen the Lord do so much through our TV, radio, and Internet ministries.

Thousands more have found the gift of life through our publishing, training, and live evangelism programs. But we know we could reach even more if we only had the resources.

That’s why for your gift of any size this month, I’d like to show my appreciation by sending you my new message, Signs of Real Revival. It explains how our churches and members can know the Holy Spirit is truly working in our lives to fit us for the kingdom of heaven. You really don’t want to miss this message as you get ready for a new year, so please send your gift today.

Finally, remember that Amazing Facts is a non-profit ministry, so your gifts before the end of the year will have tax-deductible benefit—what a great opportunity to save on your 2012 taxes and to save souls who are missing out on everlasting life. It is a priceless and eternal transaction that I ask you to be a part of again this month and in 2013.

God bless you for your faithfulness today,

Pastor Doug

AN AMAZING FACT: Bees are very social insects, and mutual feeding seems to be the order of their existence. The workers feed the helpless queen, who cannot feed herself. They feed the drones and, of course, they feed the young. They seem to actually enjoy this social act. One bee always seems ready to feed another b...
