Charlie Kirk and the True Hope of the Resurrection

Charlie Kirk and the True Hope of the Resurrection

Charlie Kirk, a popular conservative political activist and founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was shot on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, during an outdoor debate forum with college students on the Utah Valley University campus.

The suspected killer, a 22-year-old Utah man named Tyler Robinson, shot him from the top of a nearby building. At the time of this writing, Robinson is being held without bail after being booked on charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm.

Kirk died at a local hospital shortly after the attack, leaving behind a wife and two young children. He was 31 years old.

A memorial service, “Building a Legacy, Remembering Charlie Kirk,” will be held in Kirk’s honor on September 21, 2025, at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. As Christians, we join in mourning Kirk’s senseless murder. Political violence is never the answer to differing ideas.

Who Was Charlie Kirk?

Kirk was a media personality who promoted conservative values and sought to engage young people in politics. He toured U.S. campuses and invited conversation with his popular “Prove Me Wrong” events. Though Kirk’s remarks were sometimes provocative, he was known for his willingness to respectfully debate with those who had differing views. “We heal our divides by talking to people we disagree with,” Kirk stated. “You heal the country when you allow disagreement.”

Kirk founded TPUSA in 2012 to “identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government.” The organization has become a powerhouse in activating conservative young people. With chapters on over 3,500 high school, college, and university campuses, TPUSA is the largest student political organization in the United States.

Kirk’s movement shows no sign of slowing down. In the 48 hours following his death, TPUSA received over 32,000 requests to start new campus chapters. His widow, Erika, has vowed to continue her husband’s work, saying, “You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement that my husband built will not die.”

Kirk was a professed Christian who wanted to be remembered for his faith. He had also recently begun observing the seventh-day Sabbath. His newest book, Stop in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life, is due to be released in December 2025.

Is Charlie in Heaven?

Many people are saying that Kirk is now in heaven. Because he was a follower of Christ, they feel certain that he has gone directly to meet Jesus.

Some are even purporting to share direct messages from him now that he is in heaven.

But is this what the Bible teaches? And why is knowing the truth important at this time?

The Bible makes it clear that those who die, even in Christ, do not go directly to heaven. Instead, they rest in their graves until Christ returns from heaven at His second coming. “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

At that time, Christ will raise the righteous to everlasting life. Those who have rejected Christ will be raised to receive their final judgment. “For the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation” (John 5:28, 29).

Even David, whom God called a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22), is not now in heaven. “David is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. … For David did not ascend into the heavens” (Acts 2:29, 34).

Can Charlie Kirk Communicate With Us Now?

Again, the Bible is clear: No one who has died can communicate with us in any form.

“For the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Also, their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; nevermore will they have a share in anything done under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6).

For the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing

But what about the many reports of people appearing after they died to speak to their grieving family members? If these accounts are real and not the products of hallucinations, then these “loved ones” are actually evil spirits impersonating the dead person. (See 1 Samuel 28:3–25.)

The devil’s first lie was “you shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4). He wants us to believe that we have an “immortal soul” (even though the Bible never teaches that), so that he can deceive us more readily.

Just think of what would happen if “Charlie Kirk” reappeared with messages from heaven? Because he was so influential, many would be deceived into believing Satan’s many other lies.

Thus, while we mourn Charlie’s death, we must also say it clearly. According to God’s Word:

  • Charlie Kirk is not in heaven.
  • He cannot communicate with us.
  • Anyone who tells you otherwise is opening the door to deception.
