Teamwork in the Trinity
Read Time: 2 min

In an incredible feat of teamwork that occurred during a 2010 Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State football game, Broderick Brown displayed self-sacrifice when he tried to intercept a pass from Landry Jones that led him out of bounds. Instead of just letting the ball go, Brown leapt up in the air and over the sideline, then—before touching ground out of bounds— tipped the ball back onto the field toward teammate Shaun Lewis, who caught it in bounds.
It’s not just sports teams that understand the importance of working closely with others. Businesses know that valuing fellow employees increases the opportunities for collaboration. It requires building trust, respecting differences, and having a common goal. As Brown displayed in his quick move at the edge of the field, it also requires setting aside self for the greater good. You can go much further as a team than anyone could go alone.
The epitome of collaboration and cooperation is seen in the Godhead. Each member of the Trinity is part of the other—while at the same time having separate roles. God the Father is the source of all power, Jesus serves as a mediator to humanity, and the Holy Spirit—who knows the “deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 1:10)—distributes the blessings of heaven.
We see this perfectly demonstrated in the coming of Jesus. Gabriel’s testimony to Mary shows the three members of the Godhead working together. God’s angel told Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35). All three worked in harmony in order for Christ to be born. In a winning play, salvation came to our world.
