The Final Revolution

Like many former Communist cities, Prague is a mixture of architecture and culture that retains some of the scars of the past. Travelers can see bland apartment buildings that have often been associated with Soviet-era politics. With the fall of Communism in the Czech Republic in 1989, the cultural icons of the past have moved into the Communism museum and antique shops.
Christ’s death is accomplishing a transformation in this world on a much greater scale than any political shift. Jesus bought us back from the slavery of sin through His death. This means we can respond in loving service. In other words, by freeing us from another master we can choose to become servants in His kingdom.
The apostle Paul described it by warning against a casual attitude toward our new duty: “You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20). Without the proper context, we might be tempted to think that having to serve a new master is not much better than having been in slavery to sin in the first place. However, it is important to remember that our new service is not burdensome.
In the writings of John, we find that even the heavenly songs involve rejoicing in the salvation we have received: “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth” (Revelation 5:9, 10). This song is a praise sung specifically for Jesus, in whose service we can find the greatest pleasure. Among other things, that service involves ruling this earth!
