Not By Might, Nor By Power

An Amazing Fact: In one of history’s boldest voyages, Ferdinand Magellan launched from Spain with five ships in 1519 to circle the earth. But nearly three years later, only one ship, the Victoria, returned—with only 18 of the original 270 sailors. Magellan had died in the Philippines, but his expedition became the first to circumnavigate the globe.

Jude was the village drunk. Miserable. Despised. Alcohol numbing his troubled conscience. He desperately needed hope!

Jude seemed to be a lost cause. But God thrives in the impossible. His promise is, “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6).

The Global Challenge

Is the Gospel Commission no longer possible? About 160,000 people die each day, many without knowing Jesus. Yet 360,000 babies are born daily. Even if 4,000 people joined God’s remnant church every day, the population would still explode 90 times faster than the gospel spreads.

Yet, the everlasting gospel must go “to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people” (Revelation 14:6). Like Magellan, we must boldly circumnavigate the world with God’s truth to save hopeless souls like Jude. It is a God-given mission possible only through the power of the Holy Spirit—and the faithfulness of generous, praying friends like you!

Let me tell you Jude’s story…

An Empty Soul

Young Jude was hungry for God. But Catholic Mass never satisfied him. Exciting Pentecostal services let him down too. Eventually, he started his own church in the hope that it would fill his aching heart. It didn’t. His church failed. Utterly discouraged, Jude turned to the bottle.

But in God’s providence, Jude traveled to Kampala, Uganda, where the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism (AFCOE) in Africa happened to be conducting evangelistic meetings. God was answering your prayers!

The truths Jude learned gave him hope. But an emergency forced him back home. He’d heard enough to spark interest, but not enough to find victory in Jesus.

Then, a year later, another AFCOE Africa team—funded by faithful friends like you—came to Jude’s village. He started Bible studies … in a bar. He attended meetings and was stunned by the Bible’s clarity. He chose baptism, a transformed man!
