The entrance of Your words gives light” — Psalm 119:130

God is recreating souls by bringing the light of truth into the darkness of North American prisons, a darkness caused by the misunderstanding of His loving character. Through Amazing Facts International, light and liberty are coming to the incarcerated as the Word of God reaches them in many forms.

A Message from Pastor Doug

I’d like to share some sobering—but amazing—facts.

In 2019, a violent crime occurred every 26.3 seconds, and a property crime every 4.6 seconds. That year, over 1.4 million people were incarcerated in the United States.

By March 2025, the prison population had grown to over 1.9 million across state, federal, local, and juvenile facilities—including more than 191,000 women and 48,000 juveniles. Over 31 percent are serving sentences from 15 years to life.

Locked in a world where shadows prevail, many of these souls have no vision for a brighter future. Shackled by addiction, loneliness, and despair, they wander in spiritual darkness, longing for meaning and peace.

At creation, God said, “Let there be light,” and darkness was dispelled. His Word still brings order out of chaos. Paul writes that God, “who commanded light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). This light of truth and love transforms lives even in the worst of situations.

When Jesus said, “I was in prison and you visited Me,” He was calling us to carry His light to the incarcerated. Through Amazing Facts, that same light now reaches into prison cells, bringing hope, forgiveness, peace, and true liberty in Christ.

Inmate Challenges

Prison life is often overcrowded, understaffed, and plagued by violence, abuse, and substance dependency. Strict regulations, designed to prevent contraband, frequently block access to life-changing spiritual materials. Many inmates feel forgotten- left to struggle with loneliness, guilt, and addiction as people written off by society.

Julio’s story mirrors many others. Born to an alcoholic mother, he was diagnosed with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Abuse and neglect drove him to drugs, and at 18, after a tragic incident, he was sentenced to death. On death row, he wondered if he would ever find freedom – until the light of God’s Word reached him.

Life after prison can be just as challenging. Many return to negative environments, lack support, and face the stigma of a criminal record. It’s no surprise that 66 percent of released state prisoners are rearrested within three years, and 82 percent within ten years.

Madeline’s journey reflects this cycle. After enduring a violent childhood, she was imprisoned for murder at age 20, released after 15 years, and soon returned to prison under the weight of shame and addiction. At 58, she feared she’d never be free again- until Christ’s truth brought her hope.

Why We Care

Amazing Facts Is Bringing L.I.G.H.T.

Strict prison regulations prevent families from sending Bibles or spiritual materials to their incarcerated loved ones—only approved
organizations are permitted to do so. As a recognized publishing ministry, Amazing Facts has a rare opportunity to break through those
barriers and deliver hope-filled, life-changing truth to those behind bars, reminding them that they are not forgotten.

The Impact of L.I.G.H.T

Julio’s testimony reveals how the Amazing Facts prison ministry changed his life.

“When I first wrote to you all, I was just about to end my life, I had given up all hope, and I had everything planned out. But your first letter opened a little light inside of me, so I told myself, ‘Let’s wait a little bit, see what Amazing Facts can teach me.’ Amazing Facts and the people who work there have shown me that there are people who still care and love people like me. Amazing Facts is the reason I am still breathing. My thanks go out to you. Now, I will see Paradise one day.”

Some inmates who have found Christ have been executed for their crimes—yet they died with perfect peace because, spiritually, they had been set free. Even guards and other correctional staff have witnessed their transformed lives. With almost 2 million people incarcerated in the U.S., many more are languishing behind bars and need the light of truth. If you know someone currently in prison, you can help! Let’s open more prison doors.
