Luz From Facebook to Faith

Daily Devotional Audio

Luz sat down to peruse Facebook—never expecting that her life was about to change.

She didn’t have much of a social circle and kept her life simple. She mainly focused on God and her teenage grandson, Christian (who was diagnosed with autism), of whom she had full custody.

Luz was reared in the Catholic faith, but she rarely attended church. When her parents did take her to church as a child, the services were in Latin and she couldn’t understand what was being said.

Now, on Facebook, she discovered something intriguing—a promotion for a series of meetings hosted by an evangelist with a ministry called Amazing Facts. She wrote down the date and reminded herself several times to not forget and miss opening night.

Luz and Christian arrived for the first evening, and both immediately found the Bible information fascinating. They returned for the next night—and the next. While Luz felt a little hesitant about the church sponsoring the event, she was pleasantly surprised to discover that she was enjoying the meetings more and more. Her reservations quickly melted away.

Sometimes, it wasn’t easy to attend every night. But she noticed that whenever she hesitated about whether to go, Christian would speak up and say, “I want to go.” They never missed a night!

Soon the church members and the evangelist began sharing additional Amazing Facts resources, including magazines, Bible lessons, DVDs, and more. Luz devoured them and said, “I enjoyed every message!”

Luz felt her understanding of God growing abundantly, whereas before she’d struggled with all sorts of daunting questions. She became particularly convicted about the beautiful truth of the Sabbath and decided to commit her life to this deeper walk. At the end of the series, Luz and Christian were baptized together into God’s remnant church, joyfully testifying to their new journey of truth.

Today, Luz knows that she has purpose and reason in her life—to share with others the blessings she has found, especially about the Sabbath. “I invited my neighbors to the church,” she reports, “and soon they will marry and go down together into the baptismal waters.”

Luz can now thankfully testify to others about her new walk with God. “I have not stopped talking about all the blessings that God has for everyone who believes in Him.”

Reflect: How many blessings has God given to you? See how many you can count up in one minute.
