Mikael The Power of Christ, Part 1
Read Time: 2 min

Mikael’s long, dark spiral began with sudden devastation when he was only 11 years old. Literally overnight, his loving, joyful childhood in South Africa changed. His father was brutally attacked and nearly killed—and nothing would ever be the same again.
Before the attack, his dad would play with him and attend his soccer games. Now, Mikael struggled to make sense of the severe brain damage that left his father physically and mentally challenged, with the emotions of a child.
“Having no role model or father figure, I started to go off the tracks when I was a teenager. Although I grew up happy, after my dad’s accident, my happiness declined over the years. I lost my joy. My life suddenly plummeted into a lifestyle of drugs and partying every weekend.”
For sixteen years, Mikael lived in addiction—to drugs, online gaming, and destructive relationships. Sometimes, out of guilt, he’d return to the Charismatic church of his childhood or visit the Catholic church of his girlfriend. But he often wondered if there really was a God. With a thirst for knowledge, he felt particularly drawn to “experts” who claimed to expose hidden stories and secrets. One documentary particularly impacted him because it dismissed Christianity as a fraud and hoax.
Then, Mikael found something different.
“In 2015, I went to rehab. Once my mind was sober and free from drugs, I could hear the gentle knocking of Jesus on my heart. I asked God to show me the truth and, boy, did He show me the truth!” While researching for a deeper understanding about Daniel and Revelation and the antichrist, Mikael found Amazing Facts TV. “I downloaded Foundations of Faith and The Prophecy Code and started watching. I love the way Pastor Doug presents truth—he has this gentle way of presenting. I was in a Christian church for most of my life, yet I’d never heard these things that he was preaching. Over a short few weeks, I started believing. I was convinced the message I heard was the truth.”
Reflect: When was the last time you heard the voice of God speaking to your heart? Jesus said, “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13).
