Ms. Zhao Never Forsaken

Daily Devotional Audio

“I first started attending church out of fear,” Ms. Zhao admits. “I was only nine years old when I heard my neighbor say, ‘Believe in God, He can save you. If you don’t, you will go to hell and suffer forever and ever.’”

Ms. Zhao came to believe that God was a tyrant who loved to torture sinners. She felt that the Lord had forsaken her because of her sinful life. It led her to wonder if there was any purpose in living. “I tried a dozen times to read the Bible, but I could never make sense of it.” When she asked her pastor questions about the Scriptures, he couldn’t answer them.

Ms. Zhao, who was 22 years old at the time, became extremely distressed and wanted to end her life. That same year her best friend committed suicide. It only made her more distraught. She asked herself, “What do I believe? Where is God’s love? If we are all destined for hell, why not just get it over with?” She decided to follow her best friend’s example and take her life.

“But God never forsook me,” she recalls. “His love was always with me. At this exact time my pastor, who knew what I was going through, brought me a video called Cosmic Conflict. I had never heard messages like this before. I knew nothing about God’s love and the freedom He gives me to choose what is right.”

From that moment on Ms. Zhao searched the Internet for Pastor Doug’s videos and discovered the Chinese Amazing Facts website. When she learned about the true Bible Sabbath, she talked with her Sunday-keeping pastor. “Amazing Facts is full of heresy,” he told her. “Stop watching those videos.” Other church members told her the same thing. Yet no one could point out any errors in the teaching.

Eventually, Ms. Zhao contacted Amazing Facts and found a local Sabbath-keeping church. “I have learned a lot of truth,” she shares. “The church members were glad to help me and cared about me.”

Ms. Zhao rejoices, “God never forsook me. He has been leading me with His great love through all these distressing experiences. His love is always with me. I give God all the glory for what He has done. Thank you, God!”

Reflect: Do you know someone who tragically ended their own life? Hopelessness is one of Satan’s greatest tools to lead people to question whether life is worth living. Pray and seek to help the despondent with God’s promises.
