Nature Speaks
Read Time: 2 min

Have you ever looked up into the star-studded heavens on a moonless night away from the city lights? How many stars could you see with the naked eye? You know there are billions of stars, but you might be surprised to know that even on the darkest nights you can see just 4,550 stars.
Still, something about looking up at the stars brings wonder and humility to the soul. The immense universe above often stuns city dwellers when they take their first venture out into the country. Grab a pair of 50-mm binoculars and the number of visible stars shoots up to around 217,000. Look through a three-inch telescope and observe a jaw-dropping 5.3 million stars! Our own Milky Way Galaxy alone is believed to have about 300 billion stars.
Just by observing the wonders of Creation—like the countless stars in the night sky—humanity can learn something of its Designer. The poet-king David wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge” (Psalm 19:1, 2).
Learning about God in nature is called “general revelation” and should not be considered a useless pursuit. Christ often explained Bible truths through this “second book.” Consider that the very foundation of the Scriptures is laid on this first verse: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).
When you study the stars, you are seeing a part of creation that has been untouched by human sin. You get a glimpse of God’s power just by looking up into the heavens. Billions of twinkling lights truly show us that God is love.
