Reflecting His Glory
Read Time: 2 min

Who doesn’t relish looking up at the bright moon on a clear night?
You might be surprised to know, however, that our rough-surfaced moon, which basically consists of dark, light-absorbing rocks, has the anemic reflecting ability of old asphalt. Yet because of the incredible intensity of the sun and relative nearness of the moon, it appears bright to us against the night sky, especially during a full moon. When the moon is at its fullest and also at its perigee—its closest approach to Earth—it is known as a supermoon. But even the biggest supermoon reflects a mere fraction of the sunlight that hits it.
The Scriptures tell us that “God is love” (1 John 4:16). The reciprocal love of the Godhead extended throughout all Creation. We were created to love and to be loved. But more than that, we were made to reflect God’s glory—which is an extension of His love observed through His creativity and His goodness.
God’s glory is seen in the natural world, whether on the earth or throughout the cosmos. Psalm 19:1–4 spotlights this truth in splendid poetic form: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.”
Everything the Lord made emphatically points us to Him as the Creator. The apostle Paul wrote, “Since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made” (Romans 1:20). As we discover these facets of His beautiful character through the things of nature, we can become more like Him and more brightly reflect His love to others, fulfilling the purpose of our existence and multiplying the blessing for everyone.
