Rejoicing Always

Some science studies suggest that happiness might be more important to health than diet or exercise! A few of the benefits of happiness are decreased blood pressure, increased energy, better mental health, improved relationships, and more creativity. Some of the best ways to increase your happiness are: exercise, doing kind things for others, counting your blessings, and praising God.
David is a prime example of a person who praised God no matter what was happening in his life. Many of the Psalms were written when David was in dire trouble. Psalm 70 seems to be one of these. It starts out with a plea: “Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O Lord. Let them be ashamed and confounded who seek my life; let them be turned back and confused who desire my hurt” (vs. 1, 2).
Threatened by enemies who wanted to murder him, David sat down and wrote a song. While it contains urgent pleas for help, it also contains powerful praises to the Lord. We can see this pattern repeated in many of the Psalms of David. He knew where his strength came from; he knew the Source of his hope. In good times and bad—in all circumstances—he praised the God of heaven.
In spite of the difficulties in life, we have a God who loves us. He is always with us, for we are His children. He promises us forgiveness and eternal life. This gives us hope and a constant reason to rejoice in Him.
