Sheila Deeper Faith, Part 1

She thought about ending her life. Broken and abandoned, Sheila felt that she couldn’t go on. All hope had vanished. When financial struggles and pornography ripped her marriage to shreds, and her husband left her, she felt there was no reason to live. But God had not left Sheila. With only a flicker of faith left, she helplessly clung to Bible truths she had learned years before through Amazing Facts.

As a young adult, Sheila’s heart had at one time felt empty. Even though she had grown up in a faith community, even though she believed she had been “saved,” and even though she had married her high school sweetheart, she never felt like she had a personal relationship with God.

All of that changed when she attended an Amazing Facts seminar. Her husband convinced her to attend the series. Sheila was warmly introduced to Jesus as her personal Savior and friend. She didn’t hesitate to make a full surrender to Christ and she was gratefully baptized. But, she admits, “At that time I didn’t know the total life change that would take place in my life.”

At first things appeared to be fine in their family, but beneath the surface things were not going well at all. Consumed with day to day efforts to make ends meet, their marriage was about to shatter into a million pieces. Financial problems kept stacking up and then one day Sheila discovered her husband’s addiction. When he walked away from the marriage, her world collapsed.

Sheila was devastated. She valiantly attempted, as a young single mother, to support her two young boys. But the pain was so deep that she felt it would be better to just go to sleep and never awaken.

Something deep inside her heart kept her moving forward, however, something she had first discovered through Amazing Facts. Sheila turned to the Amazing Facts website for hope. There she found truth-filled articles that pointed her to Christ. She listened to inspiring sermons that grew her faith and strengthened her trust in God.

Reflect: Have you ever felt abandoned by God? The Bible says, “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart …” (Psalm 34:18). Pray and believe He is with you.
