The youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize was Mairead Corrigan, co-founder of the Northern Ireland Peace Movement. She received the prestigious award in 1976 at the age of 32. The oldest recipient was Joseph Rotblat, who received the prize in 1995 at the age of 87.
He, along with his organization, worked to diminish nuclear arms in the world. Do you know any peacemakers? Some people seem to be born peacemakers. They devote their lives to it. They truly deserve rewards. Others might think they deserve some kind of a peace prize, considering whom they have to contend with on a daily basis!
Since the Scripture says we should “live peaceably with all men” as much as possible, and since it’s not in our human nature to do so, we need to find the source of true peace.
The Bible mentions peace 384 times. Here is a sampling of peace verses: “Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ” (2 John 1:3). “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way” (2 Thessalonians 3:16). “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts” (Colossians 3:15). Only God can give us peace, for He is the Source.
Jesus deserves the ultimate peace prize, for He has “made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:20). The “Prince of Peace” has reconciled us to God. And being at peace with God is an excellent starting point for being at peace with one another.
