United They Stand

Daily Devotional Audio

The United Nations was established on October 24, 1945. A byproduct of World War II, this international powerhouse is ostensibly devoted to world peace and has, either directly or indirectly, been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 12 times in its 76 years.

But has history not shown that peace is difficult to come by? How many wars have been fought, and how much blood has been shed? Jesus predicted that the end of time would bring about more “wars and rumors of wars” (Matthew 24:6). How much more fascinating it is, then, that there will come a time when all those nations, which have spent so many centuries in contention and unable to cohere, will be “of one mind.”

Notice that this unity is in the “mind,” the forehead, not the hand. The leaders of the world will make a conscious, willful decision to “give their power and authority to the beast.” The religiopolitical infrastructure does not change during this globalization; the church is still over the state.

While the decision to turn over power to the beast is not brought about by force, it is brought about by seductive deception—by the demonic signs and wonders that confuse the reasoning and the wine that beclouds the senses. The Bible says the world will be clamoring for “peace and safety” at the end of time (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

What will be the number one danger to the entire world in the final days of earth’s history? What will be the common enemy? What will people sacrifice in order to keep the peace? Is it possible for Satan to convince the world that the enemy, the cause of all strife and turmoil, is the remnant people of God?

Thankfully, for every counterfeit, there is a truth. The devil brings about unity through deceit. His kind of unity ultimately falls apart (Revelation 16:19). God is calling His people to true unity through love. Each of us allowing God, the embodiment of love (1 John 4:8), to abide in our hearts creates the body of Christ, “being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind” (Philippians 2:2). This kind of unity brings everlasting life.

Precious Redeemer, please guide me to belong to the body of Christ; unite us in love for You and love for the human race.
