Hello friends this is Doug Batchelor. How about an amazing fact? Scientists in Bulgaria say that they have invented an instant translator that will allow people talking on phones in different languages to understand each other. The research team from Ruse, Bulgaria has also worked out a computer program that translates text and now claims that they have patented the technology that converts words spoken in one language with a digital code that can be immediately interpreted into another language.

The scientists claim that the computer chip can be inserted into any phone. The project leader told National Bulgarian TV, a person can speak clearly in their mother tongue and at the other end of the world people can hear the translation of what they say in their language. The researchers said that if investors show any interest in the technology, that practical application can begin within a year. But, did you know that in the Bible God has had a patent on this technology for thousands of years? Stay with us friends and we are going to learn more as “Amazing Facts” brings you this edition of “Bible Answers Live”.

Pastor Doug: Welcome back the “Bible Answers Live” which is a live, interactive Bible study being broadcast around the world via the internet and across North America. My name is Doug Batchelor.

Pastor Dick: My name is Dick Debit. Pastor Doug we start with a word of prayer and let’s do that shall we? Heavenly Father we thank you and praise you again as we come together to open the word of God. We look forward to hearing from you tonight and there is nothing really we can say or do without you leading out and without you being with us. And so Lord we ask that you speak clearly and calm our minds and our hearts so we may hear your still small voice. And as our callers relate their questions may we be able to relay the word of God in a saving way. Thank you Lord and in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Pastor Doug: Amen.

Pastor Dick: Well Pastor Doug this is a fascinating bit of exploration or this way you have been talking here to understand or translate languages. In fact I have a piece of software on my computer where I can sit and speak and my computer will type it out for me.

Pastor Doug: That is fascinating. And I have that software, too, because you know I type with two fingers and I have several books out, but it is embarrassing when I am on the airplane and people see me with the laptop and they are seeing me there just typing away with two fingers. So I have tried the software before speaking and it is amazing. But, this invention is where you can speak in your language and somehow it recognizes that and converts it and translates it into the selected language.

Pastor Dick: That is amazing.

Pastor Doug: At the same time of course, but this technology goes back all the way to Genesis Chapter 11. The Bible says the whole earth was of one language.

Pastor Dick: Amen.

Pastor Doug: And at that time when God confounded the language He used that technology to reverse on the occasion for the purpose of spreading people around the earth. But, then in Acts Chapter 1 and 2 the Lord then converts that gift again into an ability to speak in languages that they had never formally known or studied. Jesus said in Mark Chapter 16 that one of the gifts of the Spirit would be that they would speak in new tongues. This is a gift to speak in new languages, but one of the most misunderstood gifts of all gifts is what Paul says. And people have questions about the gift of tongues. We welcome those tonight and we have a free offer that gives a message about the gift of tongues and the way it is often misunderstood, what it is for and what it is not for.

Pastor Dick: Let me ask you a question and then I want to tell our listeners about our offering tonight. Pastor Doug is it possible and I am thinking theoretically right now. Is it possible that man is trying to take God’s place with a lot of these inventions? I mean God confused the languages right? He took it away for a purpose.

Pastor Doug: Well I think that there are many cases where man is trying to put himself in the position of God and that are more in the area of the cloning and the experimentation of the mysteries of genetics and life. But, this to me seems like a very practical thing and I might appreciate being to call and talk to friends in other parts of the world and I can’t now communicate.

Pastor Dick: Sure.

Pastor Doug: I have often been in Russia, India or Africa and you want to be able to hear and understand what they are saying and you feel left out. So this would be fascinating.

Pastor Dick: Alright if our listeners have any questions about this sort of thing it is a good Bible related question. Our offer tonight is a book that you wrote Pastor Doug. It is called “Captured by Tongues” and it will answer questions such as what should we expect from an outpouring of the Holy Spirit? Does that always mean it is manifested with a gift of the tongues? This is an excellent book that you will want in your library “Captured by Tongues”.

Pastor Doug: It talks about what the gift of tongues is for and not for and sometimes how it is abused in churches. And sometimes we will just hear people stand up and start babbling in tongues and even in the middle of a sermon and say this is a message from God. So people who might have any questions about this it is a perfect book for them.

Pastor Dick: 1-800-835-6747 is the number to call if you would like a copy of this book. That’s our resource operators who are standing by 1-800-835-6747. You can call that number if we mention any other resources on the program as well and we will be glad to send them to you this evening. Pastor Doug we do a couple of internet questions before we go to the phones. The first internet question comes from Jenna in North Highland, California and she would like to know is it alright for a person to go to another college of another faith as long as you are solid in your own beliefs in your own faith. She says she wants to study for a Christian Ministry and she is wondering if it would be okay.

Pastor Doug: Well obviously there are different colleges that are founded on different denominations are going to be biased to the teachings of their denomination. That could be in opposition to the faith of one of the students. So first of all you should stay true to the word. But, you can know that if you go to a college that has a differing denomination as its foundation that you may be challenged. And you do want to be thoroughly rooted in your beliefs, but what concerns me even more than this is there are Christians that sometimes in order to complete certain degrees they end up having to go to a secular school whether for financial or personal reasons. Some of the classes there well there are some good teachers, but some of them are diabolical and you feel it is their mission to challenge the Christian and you will be exposed to a lot of humanism and evolution-ism and that is even more dangerous. But, a person needs to be pretty selective if they are planning to complete a degree at a Christian college. A lot of their faith and make sure they are grounded.

Pastor Dick: Well grounded and probably able to explain what they are so well grounded.

Pastor Doug: That’s right.

Pastor Dick: I am sure there will be opportunities to do that.

Pastor Doug: And there could be challenges.

Pastor Dick: Okay very good. Second question comes from Saint Lucia down in the Caribbean and it says I have trouble and I am looking for someone to help clear my mind. From growing up I was instructed that any game of chance is gambling, but it seems most recently that this is beginning to change in my country. Here in Saint Lucia there is a trend that our members and directors in our mission have fallen into a trap where most furniture stores seem to entice customers by offering a number of opportunities to win cash, cars and etc. for every one hundred dollars you spend. You have a coupon where you fill your name in and they have a drawing every month and that sort of thing. They want to know whether these are legitimate for a Christian to participate in.

Pastor Doug: Well there are some thin lines that go through there. And of course gambling I don’t think a Christian should participate in whether purchasing a lottery or raffle ticket. Unfortunately some churches support raffles. If you want t make a donation to a cause there are ways of doing it without connecting it with a chance and gambling.

Well I might go t a restaurant where they say well we are giving away a free meal. And if you take one of these tags here you might win the free meal. No expense involved so I am not squandering God’s money hoping to get something for nothing. That is just a promotion where they are trying to give something away for free and I do not see anything wrong with that. But, it is when we start taking risks with God’s money hoping to get something for nothing and I don’t believe that Christians should participate in that. And unfortunately now the governments and States are sponsoring it and the addiction of gambling.

Pastor Dick: Okay let’s go t the phones and take our first caller for the evening and we’ll go to Scappoose, Oregon and we want to talk with Bradley who is a first time caller. Welcome Bradley.

Bradley: Hi Pastor Doug I was wondering if you can give me some discernment of Scripture Revelation 4: 6 through 8? When it talks about these four beasts next to God closer than the 24 Elders and they are quite descriptive describing the beasts. Are these a literal description or what is your thought?

Pastor Doug: Good question and when we look at Revelation 4: 6-8 actually it goes beyond that. You can go through verse 9 and it tells us about these beasts around the throne of God. And it says one is like a lion, second one like a calf, the third like a man and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. Then when looking in Ezekiel it tells you about some beasts very similar to these beasts. And you can’t avoid noticing some of the similarities. Ezekiel Chapter 1: 10 “As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side they four also had the face of an eagle.” But, they had four faces the face of a man, the face of a lion, the face of an ox, and the face of an eagle which is the same thing you see there in Revelation. The calf and the ox they are both cattle the same thing. So these Pastor Dick and you have probably heard the same thing that these represent the four primary characters of man and the four faces of the gospel.

Pastor Dick: Umm-hmm.

Pastor Doug: You have the Gospel of Mark is like the eagle. Matthew is like the lion. Luke is like the man who was the physician and John is like the sacrifice the calf. And so it is giving the different dimensions of Christ’s nature and also the different temperaments that you might find some people talk about that some are caloric and some are sane and some are melancholy and some are pragmatic. And it is interesting when you study these dimensions there are four sides to the New Jerusalem. God had three sets of four stones put on the high priests chest. These are representing the variety of people that will make up his kingdom. So I think that they are real creatures that are around the throne because there are two visions and bot are in Ezekiel 1 and Revelation 4 that talk about them. But, in some places in the Bible you see God sitting among two angels. For instance in Isaiah Chapter 6 and then in some of the other visions, but keep in mind that this was a vision and Ezekiel had an apocalyptic vision and it is very likely that these creatures are symbolic. But, I wouldn’t rule out if there is something there. So I hope that helps a little bit and I appreciate your question Bradley.

Pastor Dick: Thanks for the call Bradley and we’ll go to Lancaster, California and Ron is a first time caller listening to us on the internet. Hello Ron.

Ron: Hi thank you for taking my call. First time caller and listener.

Pastor Dick: Alright.

Ron: And my question real quick is reference Revelation 12: 17 and cross reference Revelation 14: 12. My question is and let me preface this is one denomination I was with we were taught this Revelation 17 was makes war with the rest of her offspring who keeps the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Who is that? Who is the remnant church they are talking about here?

Pastor Doug: Well first let’s identify the commandments of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ. If we look in Revelation 19: 10 and I always let the Bible interpret the Bible. It says that the testimony of Jesus is the testimony of prophecy. So back in Revelation 12 it says they keep the commandments of God and that the testimony of Jesus which is the Spirit of prophecy. It is the commandments and the testimony and the commandments and the spirit of prophecy. Now go with me do you have a Bible handy?

Ron: Yes I do.

Pastor Doug: Go with me to Isaiah Chapter 8 and there we can start with verse 16 “Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.” (KJV) Now we know that those that have the seal of God are saved right?

Ron: Right.

Pastor Doug: Then you go to verse 20 “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (KJV) just like we see in Revelation Chapter 12. So two characteristics and incidentally here the law and the testimony that is synonymous with the law and the prophets. On the Mount of Transfiguration Mark Chapter 9 two individuals appear to Jesus and they are Moses and Elijah. One was the giver of the law and the other was the greatest of the prophets so the law and the prophets. Do you still have your Bible handy?

Ron: Yes I do, but I am here with a three year old.

[Background noises Child Cooing for attention]

Pastor Doug: Hey I can relate and—

Ron: Okay.

Pastor Doug: --the last verse in the Old Testament in the last verse in Malachi Chapter 4: 8 it says “Behold I send you Elijah the prophet remember the Law of Moses.” The prophets and the law this is the word of God. These are the two blades—the two sides of that double edged sword and the word of God. So it is telling us that the dragon is especially infuriated by those who live by the word of God and that are who they are.

Ron: Well who are they are they a specific denomination in these days or is this seen later?

Pastor Doug: Well I believe and it is my belief and I would hope everybody has this belief that there is a denomination that is closer to the word than others. Now that should just stand to reason that if you were to take all the different denominations and put them on some kind of graph and then ask an angel which is closer to the Bible than the others some would score higher than others. Correct?

Ron: Okay.

Pastor Doug: So a denomination a church that stays closest to the Bible. They are the people of God. Now let me make something very clear. In the Old Testament Ron God has a special people to whom He committed the oracles of truth. I am quoting Paul right now. Who were these people?

Ron: The Jews.

Pastor Doug: Did they always do everything right?

Ron: Not even.

Pastor Doug: No they made lots of mistakes.

Ron: They were a stiff necked people.

Pastor Doug: Exactly. But, they were a people to whom He had committed the truth. Matter of fact Jesus said to the Samaritans, “Salvation is of the Jews.” In other words they had the Scriptures. I believe there are people and there is a denomination that I think has the best grasp of the Scriptures and it is my denomination.

Pastor Doug: But, I imagine a lot of people out there feel the same way.

Pastor Doug: You don’t hear me bragging about my church very much on the program because I really like to stick to the specifics of it and the Bible questions. But, I believe most people out there would like to believe that their church is the church. If they don’t believe that then they are going to the wrong church right?

Ron: Right.

Pastor Doug: They ought to change.

Ron: What about the Messianic movement of Messianic Jews who accept Yashua who is Jesus as their Messiah? Who keep the laws and the testimony of Jesus, could that be them? What I am trying to say is that their denomination is saying the exact same thing. Since they do keep this.

Pastor Doug: There are varying maybe five per cent down with you and we went through a list I could give you my personal opinion you know about which ones are closest to the Scriptures and I think people might start with some of these groups like Reverend Sun Mun Moon he claims to be Christian among other things. Well most folks can see this is crazy. So you can start there and scratch off a lot of them that have just a few elements of Christianity. And then you can find some that in their reaching and I am not talking about the people, their buildings or how they sing or their choir or how dynamic their TV programs are. I am talking about in their foundational teachings that they are adhering to the word that’s what you go by.

Ron: So in closing and what I am getting from the synopsis of what you are saying is today in 2002 there is one denomination that is the remnant that is the one true church.

Pastor Doug: I believe that there is a denomination that has had the truth committed to them. Yes that has come out of the false teachings of the dark ages that have gone back to the Bible. But, let me ask you one more question here.

Ron: Sure.

Pastor Doug: While we are talking about this that is not to say and that is not a question that is a statement that there are not many people on their way to heaven from many denominations. Do you hear that? I want to make sure that everyone hears that one. But, I believe that there is a church and I don’t believe in all this mystic eastern thinking that all rivers lead to the ocean and all churches get you to heaven and it does not matter which church you belong to. I think it does matter, but we have a lesson we offer for anyone that wants to know what I believe about that. And it is a lesson called “The True Church”. And I think it is called actually “What’s Wrong with My Church?” So we will send you that for free and hope you call our resource line.

Pastor Dick: Ron call our resource line 1-800-835-6747. Call and ask for “What’s Wrong with My Church?” and we will send it out to you and after you have had a chance to go through it call us back and tell us what you think. Let’s go next to Orlando, Florida. Pastor Doug Franklin is a repeat caller listening on the internet hello Franklin.

Franklin: Hello.

Pastor Dick: Your question please?

Franklin: Is the strong drink mentioned in Proverbs 31: 6 referring to un-fermented wine? Why is it called strong drink if it is not un-fermented wine? In Proverbs 31: 6 it says “Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish and wine to those that be of heavy heart.”

Pastor Doug: Well I think that it is fermented. Obviously where it says there to give it to him ready to perish there must be some numbing influence. Matter of fact when Jesus they offered Him sour or fermented wine because it was a narcotic to help deaden the pain. And when He tasted it and recognized what it was He refused to drink it. And that is why He later said I thirst. Actually He said I thirst before that and that is why they brought that to Him. But, here in Proverbs 31it is strong drink and if you look in Proverbs 23 it tells you look not upon wine when it is red and it gets its color from the cup and at last is ripe and it bites like a serpent. So it is something that obviously alcohol is a drug. And when used as a drug that is one thing and I think there are certain drug out there that God may have made available for emergency medical treatment. But, when people take drugs on a regular basis so they can inoculate or medicate themselves that is called a drug addiction or drug abuse and alcohol should not be taken like that for its narcotic effect. You can gargle with it and it will kill germs in your mouth. But, make sure to spit it out. So yeah I believe here—you still with us Franklin?

Franklin: Yeah.

Pastor Doug: Yeah I believe in Proverbs 31 that it was fermented.

Franklin: Okay.

Pastor Doug: Now I have written a book on that and we will send you a free copy. It is a bargain you can’t refuse a free phone call and a free copy and it is called “Wine and the Christian”.

Pastor Doug: It is a study that I put a lot of heart and soul into. “Wine and the Christian”

Franklin: Thank you.

Pastor Doug: Okay.

Pastor Dick: Alright and thanks for the call Franklin. Again call our resource operators at 1-800-835-6747. Pastor Doug let’s go to Edison. New Jersey Michael is listening on WMCA. Michael what is your question tonight?

Michael: Hi my question refers to Romans 14: 5 I was wondering if that refers to the Sabbath?

Pastor Doug: Alright let me read this for our friends, 5 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” I am also going to read verse 6 if that is okay. 6 “He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.” (KJV) Paul is speaking here I believe—first of all he is addressing Romans who are converting to Christianity and what of the Jewish laws are still intact. The Jews had a number of ceremonial Holy Days that came on a yearly basis and it was not required for converts to Christianity the new converts, to be circumcised or to practice the ceremonial aspects of the Jewish law because hey wee shadows that pointed to Jesus. But, that is completely separate from the Ten Commandments and the Sabbath was a weekly commitment. So Paul is very clearly addressing the ceremonial laws and holidays and he is not talking about—you know a modern comparison for this would be—Pastor Dick, there are Christians who want to remember the birth of Christ during Christmas. There are some who say you know I don’t believe that that is when He was born so I am not going to have anything to do with it. They say it is a pagan trapping and I think everyone needs to be persuaded in their own mind.

Pastor Dick: Exactly.

Pastor Doug: But, it had nothing to do with—I mean you cannot imagine Michael that God would be telling Moses that someone should be stoned for breaking the Sabbath. In one part of the Bible and then another part of the Bible and then say well if you want to keep it do and well if you don’t it’s up to you. So he is not talking about the Sabbath command here he is talking about the Jewish Holy Days and I hope that helps.

Michael: Yes. Thank you.

Pastor Dick: Thanks for the call Mike. Let’s go to Mount Vernon, New York Albert is listening on WMCA. Welcome Albert.

Pastor Doug: Pardon me one more thought came to me Albert stay with me. When I hear about Romans 14: 5 would you ever say to your flock if you want to come to church on Sunday that is okay, but if you don’t that’s okay. You know whatever day you want to come. We don’t say that so I am sorry Albert go ahead.

Albert: Hi I will keep this brief. I am trying to explain to somebody that Jesus is God and I referred them to John 1: 1 through 14 and other than that text is there any other Scriptures I can refer them to? Also when they were letting me read to them they asked well how that explains how Christ was on the cross and said Father why have you forsaken me.

Pastor Doug: My God, my God why have you forsaken me? Alright let me answer you quickly. Is there some other Scriptures? Yes John 58 Jesus said before Abraham was I am. He claimed divinity and that is why they were going to stone Him because the Jews knew that He claimed divinity there. Galatians 4: 4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (KJV). He was born under the law so He looked like a human, but He was Divine. He lived before He was sent forth. I have written a book called “The Trinity” that has a whole section that talks about the Divinity of Christ that we will send to you for free. Would you like that?

Albert: Yes I would like that.

Pastor Doug: It has a lot of Scriptures in it that you can just ask for it and say Pastor Doug’s new book on “The Trinity” and then you said that what was the second part of your question?

Albert: It was when I referred them to John they had me stumped when they asked me well how do I explain God being separated from Jesus when He was on the cross.

Pastor Doug: Oh My God, my God why have you forsaken me?

Albert: Umm-hmm.

Pastor Doug: Well Jesus was quoting from Psalms 22: 1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? (KJV) and quoting there from Psalms and before the high priest offered the Passover Lamb he would quote from Psalms. Jesus was serving as both the Passover Lamb and the High Priest. He was trying to get everyone around the cross to recognize that He was the Messiah. Psalms 22 Pastor Dick is of course one of the most powerful Messianic Psalms in the Bible and He was hoping they would look at that and say this was Him. This was the one the fulfillment. Yeah so it wasn’t a cry of despair because His closing words were Father into your hands I commend my Spirit.

Pastor Dick: Yeah right, right.

Pastor Doug: Well anyway I hope that helps you Albert. We are going to take a break for just a moment. Friends don’t go far away because we have some important announcements we will share with you. And also we encourage you to check out the “Amazing Facts dot org” website with all the amazing resources there. If you have been blessed by the program then drop us a line or a note and let us know. Pastor Doug: Welcome back friends. We are “Bible Answers Live” and as the name suggests we are giving answers to your Bible questions live on the air. My name is Doug Batchelor.

Pastor Dick: My name is Dick Debit. “Amazing Facts” has put together a little book some of the best amazing facts that we have used over the last nine years. We want to send this to you for a donation of any size and we will send it to you. We’re also looking for amazing facts that we could use on this program so if you our listeners would like to write an amazing fact of 500 words or less then we will take a look at it.

Pastor Doug: And hopefully we will incorporate it into one of our programs.

Pastor Dick: Right.

Pastor Doug: We are always on a search for new amazing facts.

Pastor Dick: So let us hear from you folks and let’s go back to the phones Pastor Doug. Let’s take our first call for this part of the program we want to go to Jenson Beach, Florida. Cynthia is listening on WCNO hi Cynthia.

Cynthia: Hi how are you?

Pastor Dick: Good.

Cynthia: I want to let you know what a blessing your program is.

Pastor Doug: Well thank you and get real close to your phone. We can barely hear you.

Cynthia: Okay. My question is about when you were talking about speaking in tongues. I have heard people talking in some churches that some people are trying to teach them how to speak in tongues. Can you address that?

Pastor Doug: Well that is sometimes called priming the pump and you know it sometimes varies from church to church. There are hundreds of churches that believe and practices and even thousands and I have heard of cases where some find it is natural to babble in tongues and to be encouraged and I have to tell you about one friend in particular who went to a Charismatic Service. And they said you know would you like the gift to be baptized in the and they equated that speaking in tongues or this false babbling. So he said well yes if it is a gift of Spirit I want it. So they said say Hallelujah and repeat it. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Say it a little faster Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Faster Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah and pretty soon you are just babbling and they said, “You’ve got it.”

Pastor Doug: Well you know I can’t find any precedent for that in the Bible that’s not the gift of tongues and certainly not how to get it. The gift of tongues is something that god gives in His timing. There is nowhere in the Bible where anybody primes the pump. And the real gift of tongues is for the purpose that God gives His people the supernatural ability to speak in other languages for the business of spreading the gospel. Not for their own entertainment or to be some kind of a side show for anybody.

Pastor Dick: I have counseled people also who have come to me and said they were attending Charismatic churches and they were told if they didn’t have the gift of tongues that they weren’t saved. And that is very dangerous.

Pastor Doug: Or that they didn’t have the Holy Spirit. And nowhere in the Bible does it say that the evidence of the Holy Spirit is the gifts of the Spirit. It says you will know them by the fruits of the Spirit.

Pastor Dick: There you go.

Pastor Doug: These are completely different. Different gifts are given to different people and tongues are one of the gifts. So I hope that helps a little Cynthia. Thank you. And make sure to send for that free book on tongues that we are offering tonight.

Cynthia: Thank you. Okay will do.

Pastor Dick: Alright thanks for the call Cynthia. 1-800-835-6747 is the number to call and to Brooklyn, New York Teresa is listening on WMCA hi Teresa.

Teresa: Hi.

Pastor Doug: Hi and your question?

Teresa: My question to you is what the Bible has to say about once saved always saved.

Pastor Doug: Well the idea that once you are saved you are not allowed to choose another master goes against everything that God teaches in His word. The Bible tells us that we can always choose who we want to serve. Now can a person have assurance of salvation? Yes I believe they can. Once a person is saved is it impossible for them to be lost? The Bible teaches something very contrary to that. Matter of fact Peter talked about those that are in the way that have turned from the Holy Spirit in them, they are like the dog that returned to his vomit or the pig that was washed and wallowing in the mire. You have got Judas who was chosen as an apostle Jesus sent him out preaching the Bible says that the Holy Spirit attended his preaching and that there were miracles that were done, but you now he resisted the Holy Spirit and he turned from Christ. Balaam the prophet was a prophet of God that then became covetous and he died lost he turned away.

Pastor Dick: Umm-hmm.

Pastor Doug: So yes once a person is in a relationship with the Lord they are free to choose to turn away.

Teresa: Then they have the free will?

Pastor Doug: See people confuse statements of Jesus. Jesus said I will never let you go. And He will never forsake you and He doesn’t. But, that doesn’t mean that we cannot run off and so often in the Bible the Lord says He is married to us, but basically the church goes whoring is the word the Bible uses. The church prostitutes itself to the world and so can we leave Him? Yes. Will He leave us? No. There is a difference.

Pastor Dick: I think the most prominent example is King Saul isn’t it?

Pastor Doug: Chosen by God, filled with the Spirit and through little by little degrees of rebellion and resistance he grieves away the Holy Spirit and he dies lost of his own hand.

Pastor Dick: Right, right. And then there are other examples of exactly the opposite. Peter for instance was so impetuous and so guided by Jesus and yet I am looking forward to seeing Peter.

Pastor Doug: That’s right.

Pastor Dick: A great, great character. And just can’ wait to see Peter.

Pastor Doug: If you want there is one more verse I would like to give you. In Ezekiel 18: 24 Teresa.

Teresa: Yes.

Pastor Doug: 24 “But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.” (KJV) Now that is pretty plain and then He says if the wicked man turns he’ll live. And so it depends on who you are following and you can’t just go through some ritual and live for the devil and say I am saved. Okay? We have got an article on that which we can refer you to and it is called “Heavenly Hostage”

Teresa: Heavenly hostage?

Pastor Doug: “Heavenly Hostage” and if you will call our resource center they will send you a copy of that. It is also online.

Teresa: Okay thank you very much. You have helped me a lot.

Pastor Doug: God bless you. Praise the Lord.

Pastor Dick: Thank you Teresa. “Heavenly Hostage” you can get a copy of it by calling this number we have been giving 1-800-835-6747 or by going to the “Amazing Facts dot org” website. Pastor to Rogers, Arkansas Roger is a first time caller listening to us on the internet. Welcome Lester.

Lester: Thank you my question has to do with Leviticus 19: 28 we have young me in our church that are getting tattoos and piercings different parts of their body in the name of being relevant to non-believers. And is that legitimate or does Romans 12: 1 & 2 also apply?

Pastor Doug: Well Romans 12 it says we’re not to be conformed to the world. And I do believe it applies and of course in Leviticus it says you’re not any markings on your body. Matter of fact some translations say very plainly tattoos. So I think it is a really feeble argument that you want to be relevant and if you want to impact someone you do it by your example not by compromising and becoming like the world.

Lester: I would agree and think that this is more of the underlying reason is sort of a subtle rebellion to the church and the establishment. But, then we also have to balance that though with James 5: 9 do we not?

Pastor Doug: Well let me read that real quick I am trying to remember what James 5: 5 “Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.” 9 “Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.” (KJV) I don’t think that verse there –it is talking about grudging about one against another. I don’t even think it is saying we are not supposed to hold each other up to a Godly standard.

Lester: Very good.

Pastor Doug: Especially if these are young people. Scriptures that are often quoted are not even been used and that is one reason the church has been spiraling closer and closer to the world because everyone says don’t judge, don’t judge, don’t judge and nobody ever says I am my brother’s keeper. Well everybody says oh well am I—am I my brother’s keeper—I don’t know. I don’t have to care about what he does, but that is the wrong attitude and especially if he is one of the young people ---that are mutilating their bodies and these tattoos is a fad and they are going to be scarred for life.

Lester: You can use in verse that they are using is right before Leviticus 19: 27 they use number 27 and say oh we’re not supposed to be cutting our beards and using verse 28 and 27, but what is the answer to that?

Pastor Doug: Well first of all it is telling us you are not supposed to be doing that for the dead. Let me see here that in Leviticus 21 it also says don’t make any cuttings in their flesh and they are not to put baldness on their heads. They used to do this for the dead. They would shave off their beards and cut their flesh and it was a sign of how the pagans mourned. And God said to His people that you are not to do that. You are holy to the Lord. So to take that about not cutting the beard for the dead and they are still not to do that. It is not talking about shaving so they are misplacing the Scriptures.

Lester: Very good okay thank you.

Pastor Doug: Do you want another example the Bible says that Joseph and others in the Bible shaved. So there is no prohibition against shaving in the Bible it was just not cutting your beard for the dead.

Lester: Excellent thank you.

Pastor Doug: You are welcome.

Pastor Dick: Thanks for the call Lester. To Fresno, California and Charlie is listening on KARM hi Charlie.

Charlie: Hello how are you doing?

Pastor Doug: Good.

Charlie: Well I enjoy your program all the time and I listen to it, but I am a first time caller.

Pastor Doug: Well we are glad.

Charlie: And I have a question and that is that I was approached and I was talking to a Christian and he was saying that Jesus drank wine and I remember hearing that you were telling about that earlier and you said he did not drink fermented wine because I know that He did not drink fermented wine because He didn’t like it. And so I know that and want the Scriptures if you have them please? They were talking about in Proverbs that wine is a mockery.

Pastor Doug: Well there are a number of verses we can go to first of all though the ids that Jesus drank fermented wine I believe is a terrible abuse of those verses that talk about wine. The word wine in the Bible is clearly used two ways. You do not find the word grape juice anywhere in the Bible. It is either called new wine or strong drink and then it sometimes just says wine and you had to read the context. Their wine skins were not labeled in Bible times. Like the labels on the bottles today that tell what the alcoholic proof content is for what the percentage was. And the longer it sat in the wine skin the older it became and would gradually ferment. Those that wanted to stay faithful to God didn’t drink and numb their senses and that is why when they offered wine to Jesus on the cross he refused it. At the Lord’s Supper Jesus said I will not drink this again until I drink it with you new in the Father’s kingdom and new means new wine un-fermented.

Charlie: Oh.

Pastor Doug: And John the Baptist who was a cousin of Jesus said he didn’t drink wine or strong drink because he had a holy mission. And so it is safe to assume that Jesus did the same thing. Now because He turned water into grape juice at a wedding and they said that you saved the best for last doesn’t mean that He had saved the strongest drink for last and it is the opposite because you could get strong drink all year long in Palestine and Israel. You couldn’t get the new wine except during the harvest. So it is just a terribly abused subject and this is in my book I will send to you for free Charlie.

Charlie: Okay.

Pastor Doug: Called “The Christian and Alcohol” if you will just call and tell them you want a copy of the new book and they will send that out to you.

Charlie: Okay. What is the name again?

Pastor Doug: “The Christian and Alcohol” and Pastor Dick will give you the number.

Pastor Dick: 1-800-835-6747 Thank you Charlie. Let’s go next to Brooklyn, New York with Ricardo first time caller on WMCA welcome Ricardo.

Ricardo: yes good evening and I have a question about Roman Chapter 1: 28

Pastor Doug: Let me find that real quick. About there and here we go. Verse 28 “And even as they did not like retain God in their knowledge God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient.”

Ricardo: Yes what does it mean to have a reprobate mind?

Pastor Doug: Reprobate means continually rebellious. I am looking at some other translations here it means debased and I will even tell you what it means in the original language. It is adokimos. It means to have a worthless, rejected rebellious attitude. It means to be debased.

Ricardo: So when you reach that point are you telling me that there is like no hope for you? Once you reach that state.

Pastor Doug: Well if you pull over there and park in that state then you are in trouble. But, if a person is convicted in their heart that they are being rebellious and reprobate and they repent God can change your heart. That is why Isaiah Chapter 1 says if you repent and turn from your wicked ways you can be as white as snow. But, then it goes on and says if you refuse and rebel then that is the Hebrew equivalent of reprobate you’ll be devoured by the sword. So you have the choice to repent and say change my heart and change my mind and God will or just say oh well I am just rebellious and living in rebellion. He can change your heart are you afraid you have that problem Ricardo?

Ricardo: Yeah. You know I don’t want to mention what the area of the problem is, but it is very--

Pastor Doug: You are struggling with something?

Ricardo: Yes. Struggling.

Pastor Doug: Would you like us to pray for you?

Ricardo: Yeah. That would be good.

Pastor Doug: Why don’t we do that right now? Ricardo we are going to talk to the Lord right now and invite others to join. Father we sense in talking with Ricardo that he is struggling. The very fact that he called us means he recognizes there is some area in his life that he is living in rebellion. He knows isn’t right and I pray you will soften his heart. I pray you will do for him what he is powerless to do for himself. Please Lord deliver him form whatever the chains are that are binding him and I pray that you will give him that change of heart that he longs for and that purity of soul that will be accompanied by the peace of the spirit. So be with him please Lord and help him to have that new life. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen.

Pastor Dick: Amen.

Ricardo: Thanks a lot.

Pastor Doug: Okay you are welcome and I hope to hear from you that you are doing better.

Pastor Dick: To Greensboro, North Carolina Brandon is listening on WPPL hello Brandon.

Brandon: Hello Pastors.

Pastor Doug: How you doing? Your question?

Brandon: Good. My question is in Daniel Chapter 11 and 12 I was wondering how the kings of the north do and the south do fit into prophecy because I know that has something to do with prophecy.

Pastor Doug: Yeah let me tell you what happened several times in the Bible. If you read in Isaiah Chapter 12 and Ezekiel Chapter 28 there are two prophecies where they start out talking about earthly kings and then they transition to the power behind those kings which is the devil.

Brandon: Umm-hmm.

Pastor Doug: In Daniel 11 it starts out talking about the kings of Greece and the division’s of the Greek Empire and then he transitions at behind the scenes to the real battle between the dragon and Michael. And the King of the North is synonymous with a great evil power. And if you look n Isaiah it tells us that the devil wants to sit enthroned in the sides of the north. And it is a term that is used for the devil. Let me find that for you and a matter of fact we have a lesson we can offer you that talks specifically about the devil and some of these verses. And it is called “Things Aren’t Always What They Appear”, no that is not the one it is “What You Don’t Know Will Hurt You”.

Pastor Dick: “What You Don’t Know Will Hurt You”.

Pastor Doug: We have got so many lessons.

Brandon: Yeah I took that already.

Pastor Doug: Well have you read in the verse in Isaiah Chapter 12 where it talks about the devil? I think what I meant was Chapter 14: 12. Let me go here real quick. “How you are fallen from heaven oh Lucifer son of the morning? For you said I will exalt my throne above God and sit upon the Mount of the Congregations in the sides of the North. So Satan wants to sit on top of the world just picture the North Pole for a second. And so the King of the North in Daniel really ends up talking about the devil. And he operates through earthly governments don’t misunderstand. And then it talks about Michael standing up and the conflict kind of goes to a head so to speak. You know what you are asking is too hard to do when I try to march through Daniel of two Chapters and which is a big answer. In our advance Bible series we offer some lessons that deal with Daniel and if you request them or can you get on the internet Brandon?

Brandon: Not right now.

Pastor Doug: Okay then call and ask to sign up for the advance “Amazing Facts” study course there is no charge. It will take you through some of these advanced Bible Prophecies.

Brandon: And what number is that?

Pastor Dick: 1-800-835-6747 it is a free cal the lessons are free you need to call and ask for the advanced lessons they will send them to you right away. Thanks for the call and let us know what you find out. Pastor Doug let’s go to Long Island, New York where Andre is a first time caller on WMCA welcome Andre.

Andre: Hi my question is can you go into the Godhead the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and describe how it is?

Pastor Doug: Well I can’t do an exhaustive study, but I will give you basic study except of one of the most misunderstood concept that people struggle with. Moses said hear oh Israel the Lord our God is one. But, a man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife and becomes one. Well that oneness in the Bible does not always mean oneness in the Bible—oh I think we lost Andre. It doesn’t always mean one numerically. You can remember when Andre in John 17 Jesus said He prays the apostles might be one even as He and the Father are one. One means unity so that is one point and then of course reading in Genesis God said let us make man in our image and you find that expressed many times in the first book of the Bible. God refers to Himself as us. And of course God tells us we are to be baptized in the name God of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And you look at the characteristics of God Andre that God is all knowing. Well the Bible tells us that the Spirit is all knowing and that Jesus is all knowing. He knew what they were thinking and God is all knowing all powerful and all the characteristics of God are what the Spirit and Jesus and the Father have. In the beginning Go created the heavens and the earth you read that in Genesis. And you read in the beginning where all things were made by Jesus in John Chapter 1. So Jesus must also be part of God. It is a big subject and I will send you my book for free. Andre would you like that?

Andre: Okay.

Pastor Doug: It is a simple book. But, it gives a lot more Scripture there than I can share here on the phone.

Pastor Dick: Andre just call the resources operators 1-800-835-6747. And ask for “The Trinity” and they will send it to you. Pastor Doug let’s go next to West Palm Beach, Florida with Ron listening on WCNO hello Ron.

Ron: Hello how you doing, sir.

Pastor Doug: Yes thanks for your patience.

Ron: Today a young man got on the radio talking about that Paul talked in tongues so I wanted to know is that true or not? If it is true I thought he said he did speak in tongues. I am confused on that issue.

Pastor Doug: Yeah Paul does say he speaks in tongues and I am trying to find it. Doing a search with my Bible program and in 1 Corinthians 14: 18 Paul says, “I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all.” And the word tongues their means language and Paul was the most educated of the apostles. Even though he was not one of the first twelve he later calls himself an apostle. And he spoke in more languages. We know that he spoke in Greek, Latin, Hebrew and probably a few of the Asian dialects. Don’t you think that is safe to say Pastor Dick?

Pastor Dick: Yes umm-hmm he was.

Pastor Doug: He traveled widely and he was a powerful linguist.

Pastor Dick: Umm-hmm well educated.

Pastor Doug: So Paul did speak in tongues Ron.

Ron: Hmm.

Pastor Doug: And order that book that I am offering and I think that will be good for you. Who do we have next Pastor?

Pastor Dick: Well let’s see if we can get one more before we wind up this evening and go to Sacramento, California. Carla is a first time caller on KFIA hoi Carla.

Carla: How are you doing?

Pastor Doug: Very good and thanks for your call.

Carla: I have got a question and my sister wanted to know if denominations or churches still celebrate the feast of tabernacles?

Pastor Doug: Well some do there are some messianic congregations and other congregations that believe in feast days in the Bible. And they do practice the various feasts and tabernacles are one of those feasts. And I don’t believe and my personal belief is as I read the New Testament that the ceremonial reason for the feasts was fulfilled when Jesus came. That is why you read in Galatians Chapter 2 that the holidays and things that were shadows of Him were nailed to the cross. Jesus was the fulfillment of all of that. Now the spiritual application of these we keep. For instance you know how churches celebrate the communion where they have the bread and the wine. That is an example of the Passover Feast.

Carla: Yes.

Pastor Doug: Because the first communion Jesus had was a Passover service and that is why He said I want to eat Passover with you and that was the Last Supper. But, it changed because the old Passover they killed a Lamb. We don’t need to kill a lamb anymore because Jesus is our lamb. So all of the Jewish Feasts went through a radical change and we are all applying them spiritually now.

Carla: I see okay. That answers my question and she just wondered and was thinking that people should or denominations should have these services.

Pastor Doug: We do have a book on that I’ll send you for free by Joe Crews and it is called “Feast days and Sabbaths”

Carla: Okay.

Pastor Doug: Pastor Dick will give the number and I hope that helps you.

Pastor Dick: 1-800-835—6747 “Feast days and Sabbaths” Carla is the name of the book call that number and we will send it to you tonight. Pastor Doug fastest hour we ever had.
