AFCOE Africa Report—Spring 2020

Thank you for your generous giving to support the work of AFCOE Africa! Because of your interest in this training and evangelism work, I’m sending you this recent story of how God used you and our team in Africa to change lives for eternity.

The Devil Lost

The little church hosting Amazing Facts’ evangelistic meeting had only 15 members—10 adults and 5 children. Michael planned to hold revival meetings for them, but because of torrential rains, it had to be canceled. The following week, the evangelistic series began and faced tremendous challenges. Only 15 people were attending at one point.

One night, when Michael and his team were at the meeting site, robbers broke into the houses where they were staying, stealing their phones and cash. Our team reported the break-in to police, but nothing could be done, and a week later the thieves returned for more.

This time, the incident led to the local sheriff calling a security meeting, and Michael was invited to address the police force. After that meeting, many of the officers began attending his series. And although Michael and his team never recovered their lost items, there were no more break-ins—and when the meetings ended, the sheriff decided to surrender her life to Jesus. She along with thirty others were added to the little Sabbathkeeping church!

In December 2019, AFCOE Africa graduate and evangelist Michael Wambua arrived in the Kenyan town of Mumias, which is near the border of Uganda, to present “Prophecies of Hope,” an evangelistic and Bible study series.

Turning to Witchcraft

One of those who was baptized was Peninah. She had been faithfully attending Michael’s series, so one afternoon he went to visit her.

After a friendly chat, Michael asked Peninah if she was enjoying the series. That’s when she began to share her background with him, but she started sobbing as her story unfolded. Her husband was in Nairobi, 600 miles away, leaving her at home alone with three children.

Peninah also revealed to Michael that she had been raised in a Sabbathkeeping home. But when she became a young woman, she married a man who was not a Sabbathkeeper. “At first,” she said, “He was good to me, and he did not object to me attending church. But as time passed, he changed. He began to drink alcohol, and he began abusing me physically and emotionally.”

Peninah’s tears flowed as she told Michael that she became so depressed and discouraged by what was happening, she stopped attending church. “For the past eight years,” she cried, “I have not gone to church. The leaders have all tried to bring me back, but they all failed because of what I am about to tell you.”

Accepted Back

At this point, Peninah was sobbing so uncontrollably that she could no longer speak. Minutes passed as she wept, thinking over the painful memories of her life.

Finally, she was able to continue. “When my husband began abusing me, I ventured into witchcraft to contain him. Since God did not seem to hear my prayers, I turned to the Witch-doctor for help. And on top of that, I became unfaithful to my marriage. I felt so dirty, so wicked, that I didn’t believe that Christ could accept me back. That is why I decided to serve the devil.

“But the day you began the meetings, I saw a poster that said, ‘Prophecies of Hope.’ I thought to myself, ‘Maybe there is still hope for me,’ so I decided to attend. Since then, I have felt that the burden of sin has been taken off of my heart.”

At this point, Peninah asked, “Do you think that Christ can forgive me and accept me back?”

Michael patiently opened his Bible to Psalm 55:22 and read, “Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you.” Turning next to Isaiah 41:10, he proclaimed, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Michael reports that after he read these and other Bible promises of hope and forgiveness, Peninah’s face was full of joy. She made the decision to follow Christ and to be re-baptized!

We thank the Lord for how he changed Peninah’s life, and a special word of gratitude goes to you for supporting this evangelistic mission with your prayers and financial gifts. Your generosity is changing lives in Africa!

COVID-19 Update

At this time, the coronavirus pandemic has shut down most AFCOE Africa public evangelistic meetings and suspended AFCOE training. So our teams have shifted their focus to personal evangelism; our Bible workers and evangelists safely go to the homes of interests and continue to share the three angels’ messages to all who are interested. Last month, they conducted over 500 Bible studies!

Despite such restrictions and the ever-present, invisible threat of the COVID-19 virus, God’s work is still going forward in Africa! Please continue to pray for our AFCOE Africa evangelistic team, and thank you again for your support. You are bringing new life and hope to hearts that were once filled with fear!

Thanks for helping reach the people of Africa!

Amazing Facts is a non-profit, donor-supported ministry.
We greatly appreciate your prayers and financial support.
