Boldly Holding the Line

An Amazing Fact: Päivi Räsänen, a Finnish politician, is facing fines and even imprisonment for committing so-called “hate speech.” Her crime? In 2019, she cited Romans 1:24–27 in a tweet sharing her religious beliefs about marriage and sexuality. Yet even as she faces the nation’s chief prosecutor, Räsänen, a medical doctor and grandmother of six, has stood firm, saying, “I will not be intimidated into hiding my faith.”

I’m sure you’ve heard all about the many restrictions of our civil freedoms, but isn’t it especially shocking to read about the growing threat to our religious liberties?

Yes—Jesus predicted, “You will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake” (Matthew 24:9). But even though you and I know what’s coming, it’s still hard to imagine a modern Western country sending people to jail for simply quoting the Bible.

However, there’s an even more insidious attack threatening Christians today. It’s not coming from without—but from within. Let me explain …

A recent PEW Center survey reveals that the number of Americans who identify as Christian is in freefall—down to just 63 percent. Desperate to bring people back, pastors and congregations are choosing to compromise biblical doctrines and use the methods of a crumbling culture to make themselves appear more attractive. But these concessions come at a great cost, filling the church with pew-warmers rather than genuine converts seeking real heart change.

The Bible warns, “Whoever … wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God” (James 4:4). As I study the landscape of today’s church, this grave trend to toss aside Bible teachings and standards deeply concerns me … and I feel the call to hold the line.

What will you choose today?

Seven Deviations from Bible Truth

While there are numerous examples I could give, I’d like to point out seven pivotal truths where I believe many churches are compromising to destructive ends …

1. Questioning the full inspiration of the Bible. Secular human philosophies are being taught from the pulpit, eroding faith in Scripture as the infallible revelation of God’s will (2 Timothy 3:16).

2. Rejecting the six-day Creation. Theistic evolution—the idea that God created over eons of time—is in no way compatible with the Genesis account, the teachings of Jesus, or His character of love (Exodus 20:11).

3. Denying the triune God. Many churchgoers are teaching others in the fold to reject the divinity of Christ and the personhood of the Holy Spirit, ignoring clear scriptural teachings that the Godhead consists of three co-eternal persons (Matthew 28:19).

4. Doubting God’s power to save us from sin. Increasingly, preachers proclaim justification only, ignoring God’s call to sanctification. This “cheap grace” is deceiving millions into thinking they can be saved while willingly sinning (Romans 8:1).

5. Silencing the sanctuary message. God gave His last-day people a distinctive understanding of salvation through the temple services, including the truth about the judgment and the three angels’ messages (Revelation 14—but churches are now neutering belief in the supremacy of God’s plan of salvation for all humanity.

6. Discarding biblical principles of modesty. In our pews, Bible standards of modest dress are being eclipsed by the world’s values, leading to a membership more concerned about making a fashion statement than embodying truth and purity (1 Peter 3:4).

7. Rejecting the Bible’s teaching on gender/sexuality. Almost daily, I read about another church rejecting God’s plan for marriage (one man, one woman) and fully embracing pop-culture’s sinful beliefs about gender and sexuality (Matthew 5:28).

Friend, you know that I could easily add many more ways the devil is undermining God’s church today—laxness in Sabbath-keeping, ignoring biblical health principles, adopting Babylonian worship styles, embracing Jesuit interpretations of prophecy, and even dismissing that there is such a thing as a remnant church.

The Wolves Within

Here’s my point: Jesus said, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15). Satan is most effective when he attacks God’s people from within, such as promoting and the easing of standards as “examples of Christian love.” But it isn’t love, because teachings that deny the full Bible truth were conceived by Satan to lead souls away from Jesus Christ (Acts 20:29, 30).

The only real solution for this crisis in the church is for the committed faithful, people like you, to boldly hold the line of faith. That’s why, as our fellow laborer in ministry, you deserve to know that our intention is to continue proclaiming the truth with holy boldness!

Holding the Line

Even as rampant political correctness muzzles the truth, Amazing Facts has continued to address, in a frank manner, the sensitive issues confusing today’s church members—such as purity of lifestyle, speaking in tongues, and music in worship. We have always believed that strong, practical teaching leads to real, tangible changes in a person’s heart, mind, and life.

As a result, Amazing Facts has been the target of significant criticism over the years. But we simply refuse to compromise the full gospel. With this in mind, I’ve been convicted that we need to present a new revival series to boldly uplift neglected Bible truths and to show the world that we won’t be intimidated into silence. We’re calling this seven-part series Holding the Line.

This year, I will be joined by several well-known, likeminded speakers to proclaim revival and reformation, to be broadcast live globally on TV and the Internet. What better way to highlight the purpose of Amazing Facts and the W.O.R.D. Center than to give the trumpet a certain sound—for the whole world to hear?

So this month, I’m asking you to personally let me know, in no uncertain terms, that you still stand with me—by supporting Holding the Line and Amazing Facts outreach.

Naturally, there are significant expenses connected with producing a live series for worldwide broadcast—advertising, speaker travel expenses, production, and editing it for mass distribution on DVD. We also plan to send literature to those seeking to study further—but while it will be free to them, it’s not free for Amazing Facts.

So will you step forward, at this critical hour, and courageously hold up the uncompromised truths of Scripture? Your bold gift of $100 will send 227 Bible lessons with lifesaving truths to searching hearts. A brave gift of $200 will help people learn the three angels’ messages in 640 homes with televisions. And a courageous gift of $1,000 will lay a strong foundation for Holding the Line and rescue many from lurking wolves.

Friend, please keep praying that Amazing Facts will be consistently courageous in holding the line of truth, especially in these final hours. This is the best time to transfer our earthly resources into our heavenly account so that more souls are won to Christ’s kingdom (Philippians 4:17).

Boldly proclaiming God’s truth,

Pastor Doug Batchelor
